The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center offers a fully accredited four-year residency training program. It is designed as a competency-based program with a systematic progression of key learning goals and milestones for all trainees. The program is currently approved for a total of 40 residents. The program is committed to educating anesthesiology residents who are knowledgeable in the science of anesthesia, skilled in their craft, and able to serve as expert consultants in the field of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine.
Training
The CBY/PGY1 year is arranged to give broad training in clinical foundations. Interns complete rotations in:
- Critical care medicine
- Pulmonology
- Pediatric wards
- Neurology
- OB-maternal fetal medicine
- Surgical wards
- Adult ER
- VA cardiology
- Acute Pain Service
- Anesthesia Bootcamp
- Basics of Anesthesia
This year culminates in a highly structured one-month anesthesiology rotation which provides simulation training and in-depth orientation to the operative arena.
The 3 years of clinical anesthesia training (PGY2-PGY4) involve graduated clinical education in the practice of anesthesiology, with emphasis in the anesthesia subspecialties. The CA3 year (PGY4) offers a unique opportunity to pursue and tailor individual interests in general anesthetic practice or concentrations in subspecialty areas.

Embedded throughout training is a robust didactic program. This includes:
